Lagoonfest with Fatboy Slim By | News

When Justin Rushmore isn’t hosting his weekly show at 1BTN radio station, he’s running the BugBar! After setting up and managing a successful record label, Finger Lickin’ Records, It’s no surprise that 20 years later, one of the labels biggest fans was found at the helm of the decks in the DISCOBUG; a converted VW DJ booth, powered by a booming FBT sound system, a hydraulic roof and a full light show.

Earlier this month, The Bugbar teamed up with Brighton’s Hove Lagoon and the Big Beach Cafe for the first ever ‘Lagoon Fest’- a family day of cocktails, watersport activities, entertainment and some very special guests….

‘Such a fantastic day out for all. The Bugbar created the perfect atmosphere with friendly staff and great drinks, not to mention the incredible DISCOBUG and amazing soundsystem.’ – Pete

After setting up two BugBars serving cocktails and the DISCOBUG, the drinks were flowing and the party started. The delicious cocktails proved very popular, with enough Pina Colada’s for all! Our ‘Elderflower Fizz’ was especially popular, a gorgeous mix of elderflower and gin, muddled with berries and sicilian lemon. The day set off with local bands and DJ’s, and was headlined by Norman Cook, AKA FatBoy Slim! FatBoy perfectly ended the day with a glorious two hour set for the locals. Norman owns the Big Beach Cafe, situated on the beautiful Hove Lagoon, dedicated to providing a local venue for the residents of Hove. The cafe has come far in the past year, now a bustling, family friendly venue.

‘Dub’s been good to me’- FatBoy Slim

FatBoy Slim performed in our DISCOBUG, creating a truly magical atmosphere around the seafront. Old school dance tracks and family favourites were all played on vinyl, with equipment provided by the BugBar. The DISCOBUG’S top of the range soundsystem meant even the on-duty policemen were having a boogie! Our favourite moment was when Norman joined the crowds to dance with his local fans, creating a wave of energy flowing through Hove.

The bride and groom has chosen to have Fish and Chips served for their wedding dinner- a favourite for us! Their touching ceremony was decorated with our gorgeous LOVE letters, with a backdrop of the beautiful lake next to the venue. All these little touches really added to the finish of the day, a fantastic glastonbury wedding. The Bugbar was very happy to be part of such a beautiful wedding.

Silent Disco at Carfest North By | News

CarFest North is one of the standout family festivals of the Year. Put on by Chris Evans from BBC radio 2, it raises money for BBC’s Children in Need. Packed with tons of 4 wheeled action, live music, delicious food and family festival fun, the Discobug felt right at home.

The Bugbar was invited to CarFest North to put on a silent disco event for the ‘Early Bird Campers’. We set up the DISCOBUG, decorated with chequered Car Race starting flags to match the theme, and started handing out Silent Disco headsets to intrigued guests! With DJ Justin Rushmore, Soul of Man on the decks, guests were dancing through the sunset and into the night.

‘I loved the Early Bird Silent disco from the Bugbar! It provided the perfect starting point for the festival, and my whole family greatly enjoyed the music. Staff were so friendly, took requests for my children, and kept the atmosphere high.’ – Rachel

The silent disco option is perfect for anyone who wants to party and provide entertainment for their guests, but faces barriers from council regulations. We can provide a noise pollution free solution that keeps the party going! We had a host of great feedback from guests, who loved the DISCOBUG.

We can transform our Bugbars into inspiring health vans, with a range of nutritious smoothies, and organic coffee. With our mindful decor and friendly staff, the health bar is always a hit with guests or clients.

During the 2 day festival our healthy smoothies were a best seller, especially the “Mighty Green” which contains avocado, spinach, mint, apple, and kiwi. Our Iced coffees also went down a treat. The perfect creamy refreshment after a yoga class.

Brighton Yoga Festival is organised and run by the Brighton Yoga Foundation, which is a registered charity dedicated to making the health and well-being benefits of yoga accessible to all. As well as the festival, it does this throughout the year with yoga trials and online educational resources, and by offering grants to support projects that advance the charity’s aims.
